Happy New Year to all of our customers old and new! We hope you have enjoyed the festive period and are ready for all that 2014 has to offer.

We thought we would kick off the New Year with our recommendations for your dental care plan for 2014. The new year is a great time to start new habits so if you know that your dental care was not as good as it could be last year – let’s make this year count!

Regular Brushing

We all know that regular brushing is essential for keeping healthy teeth but do we all brush for the recommended 2 minutes, twice a day?

If you’re not sure that you do, now could be a good time to start. Enlist the help of a dental app like ‘Brush DJ’ which plays you 2 minutes of a song from your music library to make brushing fun, or invest in a timer to keep by your sink. Many people are surprised to find that they have not been brushing for long enough.

Daily Flossing

Are you a daily flosser? Or, do you admit that your flossing habit is more of a weekly one, or worse still… Flossing is essential for good oral health, so make sure that you do it every day.

There are some great apps to help with this too, such as ‘Flossy’. Alternatively invest in equipment that makes it easy for you like dental floss picks. These can make it easier to reach the back teeth and can make the habit easier to stick to altogether.

Regular Dental Check Ups

How many times did you visit your dentist last year? Do you make a regular plan to visit for a check-up or do you simply go when you experience pain, discomfort or when there’s a problem?

As the old saying goes ‘prevention is better than cure’ so book your check-ups now. Our team are waiting to hear from you – you can contact us here.

Visit Your Hygienist

A hygienist’s job is to professionally clean your teeth and to ensure that they’re free from plaque and bacteria. This process is called ‘scaling and polishing’ and it is an essential part of your dental care. A hygienist can also give advice on diet and preventing dental decay.

Did you visit your hygienist last year? If the answer is no – why not start the year on a good note, and if the answer is yes – perhaps it is time to visit them again? Our team will be only too happy to book you an appointment.

Make sure you begin your year with good dental habits. At Paul Lowe Dentistry we want to help you achieve the best dental health now and for the future.
